Social Time and Memory: Why Company May Help
Social time and memory are plausibly linked, but the sources we hold do not rate company as a proven memory habit. What we can say is that company gets you moving, talking and keeping a routine, and those are habits with firmer backing. Treat it as a low-risk addition.

Does social time improve memory?
We cannot say it does. None of the sources on this site rates social contact as a proven memory habit, so we will not claim a result.
The National Academies review gives encouraging but inconclusive support to activity, blood pressure control and cognitive training (National Academies 2017 report). Company is not on that list. Honest advice stops there.
Read this as: low risk, possible gain, no promise. That is a fair trade for most people, and it asks for no purchase.
How might company help in practice?
By pulling other habits along with it. A walk with a friend counts as activity, a regular lunch fixes a routine and a shared evening may nudge your bedtime.
CDC says short bursts of activity can boost memory and thinking skills (CDC, Physical Activity and Brain). A weekly walking group does that and adds conversation. HHS asks adults for 150 to 300 minutes of moderate activity a week (HHS, Physical Activity Guidelines).
| Plan | Habit it carries |
|---|---|
| Walking group | Activity |
| Weekly shared meal | Regular eating, routine |
| Class or club | Learning, a fixed schedule |
| Phone call at a set time | Routine and a reason to rise |
What does a simple week of company look like?
Three small contacts a week is a start. They need not be large, and they need not cost money.
One standing plan
Same day, same time, same person or group.
One call
Phone a friend or relative you have not spoken to lately.
One new thing
A class, a library event or a volunteer shift.
If you care for someone with memory problems, include yourself in the plan. Caregiver time off protects the caregiver.

See packsWhat if I am pulling away from people because of memory worries?
Tell your doctor. Withdrawing because you fear mistakes is worth a conversation, not a silent adjustment.
NIA says forgetfulness can be a normal part of aging, but any concern about memory is a reason to talk with a doctor (NIA, Forgetfulness: When to Ask). Losing things often, forgetting appointments or getting lost in familiar places are signs it lists as worth checking.
See when memory needs a doctor for the full list. Do not wait for a supplement to settle the question.
Where does a capsule fit alongside company?
At the edge, if at all. Evidence for most memory supplements is inconclusive, limited or inconsistent (NCCIH, Supplements and Cognition).
MemoPryl is a capsule sold for memory, focus and brain energy. A sibling pack names six ingredients, and no amounts are printed on any image we hold. Keep taking prescribed medicine, and ask your doctor or pharmacist before you start. Compare your options on the options page.

FAQ01
MemoPryl questions people ask
Is loneliness bad for memory?
We found no source in our set that answers this, so we make no claim. What we can say is that contact makes activity and routine easier. If low mood or isolation is affecting you, talk to your doctor.
What social activities are best for older adults?
The best one is the one you will keep. Walking groups combine activity and talk, and classes add learning. Pick a fixed day and time, start with one plan, and add others as it feels easy.
Can I help a parent keep more social contact?
Yes. Offer a standing weekly call or a shared walk instead of a lecture. Keep plans simple and predictable. If you notice new confusion or getting lost, encourage a doctor visit rather than a supplement.
